‘We have each other to get through this’ June 3, 2025
After the loss of my mom and pet of 13 years, it was just too quiet. After a bit of discussion, my dad really wanted a fur baby again.
On May 31, 2018, we decided to adopt Rocky (NHS Dexter). It was just perfect for dad! Rocky went right to him, licking him as the person was going over information.
Rocky came potty pad trained, so that was amazing because we have always been prepared for accidents. It was really great that NHS had him already chipped & neutered, and then provided lots of information on how to handle.
He is such a joy to us, and I couldn’t imagine my life without him. At first, he was – for the most part – my dad’s baby. They were inseparable. He would cuddle with him and get plenty of pampering. This dog definitely wants attention; he will paw at you if you stop, and it’s super cute.
He likes to have his way, thinking he runs the house and, of course, we let him. I take him everywhere with me. It’s great. He loves all the attention and just eats it up. He is a favorite at the vet.
My dad recently passed, and Rocky seems so sad. I’m just glad that we have each other to get through this. Rocky is my world. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for him. He’s 10 now according to his birth date but just as hard on someone who can’t speak. I’m grateful for all you do for this community.
