‘There will never be another like her’ May 10, 2025
“I am a former employee (2000-2022). Working at the shelter/Field Dept. were some of the BEST years of my life. I made lifelong friendships and considered my co-workers family!
In 2010, I casually mentioned that my new husband and I would like to add a cat or kitten to our home. This potential feline would be the first pet that we would adopt together! It would have to be a very special feline to put up with existing Beagles (Holly & Kermit) at home. H & K were rambunctious and defined the breed in all the ways. Within an hour, Animal Medical, the kennel supervisor and the field supervisor insisted I meet “Snookie” – a lovely little dilute tortie that was hanging out in an office instead of a kennel.
They had ALL fallen in love with her, but she needed a special home without any other cats because she had tested FIV positive. I was OK with that; we wanted a single kitty. We became instant friends. She had so much personality, but also a total love bug. She was beautiful, and I immediately agreed to “foster her” without even consulting my husband.
It was an instant connection for all of us, including Holly & Kermit. We continued to foster her for so that her medical needs could be addressed. Fast forward about five FIV tests later – it was determined she tested as “false positive” and didn’t have FIV at all. We were overjoyed!
Snookie became Sipsey and grew up thinking she is a Beagle. She has steadfast ruled the house for the past 15 years and has made several moves with us – each time taking them in stride. She has fostered loving relationships with all of our other dogs and is one of the kindest, loving, sweet natured, funny & rambunctious kitties EVER. She has slowed down in the past year & has some chronic sinusitis, but she takes meds better than our dogs! She’s the fluffiest fur purr and there will never be another like her! I’m forever grateful for my NHS family for introducing us! We love you Sipsey Sue!”
