‘The world’s worst kitten, but best dog ever!’ July 21, 2025

Enzo the dog outside under some lawn decor shaped like a rainbow

“My husband and I adopted Enzo (NHS Zuma) in October of 2016. We went in to get a little kitten to add to our family. We already had one black lab mix and one black cat, so we decided our next animal should be any other color.

We were on a waiting list to look at cats, so naturally, we decided to go play with the dogs while we waited. There was one lovely boy who played with us through the fencing, and before we knew it, we were leaving with a 3-year-old, 65-pound black kitten! 😄

Enzo had been to NHS 3 times since 2014 before we adopted him due to VERY high energy, need for attention, and needing to be in a home with older children. Two weeks after having Enzo, we found out we were going to be adding to our little family once again!

We have two boys now, and Enzo was the best playmate, protector, and friend to them both. Enzo enjoyed fetch IMMENSELY, sprinklers, chasing bubbles, and as my son would say, “keeping the cat out of trouble.” He absolutely hated thunder, flies in the house, and the drain cycle on the washing machine. At least I knew every time the laundry was almost done.

Our beloved, sweet, energizer bunny of a dog unfortunately passed away recently on May 9. We got to have our Zo for only 9 years, but our lives are forever changed by Enzo…the world’s worst kitten, but best dog ever!!”
