“In 2005, we lost our beloved mini schnauzer to cancer. The house was just too quiet without her.

I mentioned that it might be nice to get a kitty who needed a home, and my son and husband knew that, since I was a child, I had always been partial to Siamese.

As I walked returned home from work one afternoon, both hubby and son were in the kitchen, standing by the sink with a mysterious expression. I asked what was going on, and they said there was a very strange noise under the sink and they were trying to figure it out.

About that time, a little fuzzy head with blue eyes pops out, with the raspiest little meow you’ve ever heard! It was love at first sight as I scooped the most darling lavender Siamese cat.

His name was Charlie, and he’d been left in the night drop box at NHS. He was around nine months old.

Charlie lived another 17 years with us and kept us entertained with his antics, feeling loved with his affectionate nature, and kept us guessing with his ability to curl up in the strangest places for long naps, as we searched the house for his whereabouts. Once, we spent hours looking through the house, yard, and neighborhood, even enlisting the help of all of the neighbor kids, only to find him curled up under his favorite blanket, having a nap.

On the day he passed, he reached out a paw to touch my hand as he slipped away, purring deeply, until he didn’t. He was a wonderful cat, best companion, and a character. We miss him, still.”
