‘She was a star’ June 17, 2025
“For a long time, the Marketing Department at the shelter was just three people. Then, one day, it became three people and one grouchy chihuahua named Minerva.
Pam tells it best, but Minerva was handed to a staff member out of a car window in our parking lot. All we knew about her was her name. Pam, our former Marketing VP and current CEO, took her in. Soon, everyone knew her as the “grumpy marketing dog.”
Minerva came with Pam to work everyday, and she let everyone know it – she met almost everyone at Pam’s door with her signature mix between a bark and a cough, thanks to her collapsing trachea. Because asking a dog for help is easier than asking a person, Minerva was often seen in shelter TikToks and other social media posts.
Was she naturally photogenic? No. Did she always look at the camera when I wanted her to? No. Did she pee basically wherever she wanted to? Yes. But she was a star anyway.
Minerva passed in August of 2024, in the comfort of her bed at home with Pam. I miss her antics every day, but am so glad she got to spend her golden years with us at the shelter.”
