Since 2003, the Nebraska Humane Society has offered Rainbow Bridge, a private cremation service for pets. Private cremation guarantees the ashes you receive are those of your pet. Each pet is individually cremated and the ashes are hand-gathered. Our pouches, urns and mahogany boxes help you memorialize your pet in a meaningful and everlasting way.

Private cremation is one pet, alone, at a time, in the crematorium.

Q: Does Rainbow Bridge provide cremation services for all pets?

We can accommodate dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, pocket pets and small livestock, such as mini horses, potbellied pigs and goats.

Rainbow Bridge proceeds stay right here at the shelter, so as you take care of your pet you are also taking care of homeless animals who need medical treatments, TLC and safe haven. We can think of no better tribute for a beloved companion!

Rainbow Bridge offers private cremations. This means that one pet at a time is cremated in our private crematorium. Each pet is hand-placed into the crematorium. Once cremation is complete, the ash is hand collected and placed in a container of your choice. Because of this, you are assured that the ashes you receive are indeed those of your beloved friend. We perform private cremations on a daily basis and cremate in order of arrival. Because we do each creamtion individually, our cremation turnaround can average three to seven business days.

How do I use the services provided by Rainbow Bridge?

We work with all veterinary clinics in Omaha, Council Bluffs and the surrounding area. Please let your veterinarian know you are choosing Rainbow Bridge for aftercare of your pet. Your veterinarian can contact us to arrange transportation of your pet to us for Rainbow Bridge Cremation. If you prefer, you can bring your animal to our main building at the Nebraska Humane Society during business hours. No appointment is necessary. Simply tell the desk attendant you need Rainbow Bridge services.
