‘I would not trade her for anything’ July 5, 2025
“In March of 2011 I adopted Zephyr (NHS Pepper). I was told she was put in the drop box on Valentine’s Day. They thought she would be about 35 pounds, but she ended up weighing 75 pounds.
They always joked if I wanted bring her back, and I would say “NO!” Zephyr took classes at the NHS with Cathy and Julie Grady-Potts. NHS was exactly right on her assessment – you said she is the “life of the party and loves everyone.”
I took her to Scheels, and she ran up to the bronze figures in front, sat and starting wagging her tail as if she was saying “Hi, my is Zephyr.”
She lived a full life. She passed in October 2024. She got to swim in the Pacific Ocean and go on road trips with us. She participated in studies at UNL.
Zephyr loved her pool. It didn’t matter what the temperature was. If there was ice, she would break it and jump in. When we bought our pickup truck, we made sure it was a four-door so she could have her own window.
She was great. I would not trade her for anything. She was Border Collie/Austrian Shepherd. She was a handful, but she was worth it.”
