‘Goodwill ambassador for NHS’ June 5, 2025
“By Summer 2021, we had decided it was time to fill the void left by our beloved lab. We were looking for an active and friendly, young but mature, affectionate and housebroken dog.
A few meet and greets at NHS weren’t quite right, but on Aug. 9, 2021 a picture and profile on the NHS website grabbed my attention. Everyone I came into contact with before I even met him absolutely raved about Carter and with good reason.
He has been so much more than we could have hoped for. Carter has become my husband’s right hand man-dog. They walk and/or run 5 miles a day, making friends wherever they go. The kids in our neighborhood (and beyond) all know Carter. He meets them at their bus stops, allays their fears of dogs, and even occasionally crashes their parties! When possible, he accompanies my husband to work at Werner Park, dispensing bandaids and stuffed bears to injured youngsters.
Most importantly, we consider him a canine public service announcement and goodwill ambassador for NHS. Wherever Carter goes, we tell his story of being rescued from a hot car and being so well cared for by the fine staff of NHS.”
