‘Added so much laughter’ to our lives May 5, 2025

“Clay, the big gray guy, is nearly 18 years old. He was at one time the youngest and smallest of another cat family. He was a feral kitten we got when he was 5 weeks old. He was sickly and kept him in the bathroom and ran a shower to act as a humidifier. He took his meds well and never lost his appetite. His heaviest weight was 18 pounds. I refer to him as our gentle giant. We name our animals after singers and Clay was named after Clay Aiken, the runner-up on Season 2 of “American Idol.”

Since December 2019, Clay had been our only cat and I was trying to decide if I should adopt another. I would put the TV on a station with kittens playing and he seemed to stay awake to watch.

On a Sunday in November I found a five-month-old white tabby. His card read “very friendly” and his name was Trix. I changed his name to Tomy (pronounced “Tommy”). He is so cute and has added so much laughter to my and my daughter’s lives.

Clay, however, wasn’t so sure. He has taken up sleeping in his old age and a kitten likes playing.

As time went on I thought we should add one more kitten to add to our new cat family. I found another kitten. He was black and 7 months old, so he would be Tomy’s age. His card read “friendly and his name was Biggie. The vet said that he will be big and he’s already strong. We changed his name to Billy.

They have so much cuteness and mischievousness. Billy has a fish toy that he carries around and when done drops it the water dish. Tomy likes to lay in my daughter’s gaming chair. They both take turns chasing the laser pointer light. Both love eating and have learned to sit for a treat.

After all that playing they come in and see Clay for their catnaps. They are all truly brothers from a different mother.
