‘A piece of my brother still with me’ July 24, 2025

Delilah the cat laying on her back

“My brother visited NHS in September 2013 to adopt a dog. On his way to the kennels, he passed the cat area and saw Delilah (NHS Deliha). It was love at first sight, and he took her home the same day.

He texted me her picture and said “Her name is Delilah, but I call her Fatsy Cline”. From that day on, Fatsy was the love of his life. He often texted me pictures of her sitting on his lap, which in Fatsy fashion meant leaning up against him with her face as close to his as possible. She gave him as much love as he gave her. My brother died suddenly in November 2016, and my husband and I immediately moved Fatsy to our house.

I always thought that Fatsy was a nickname, but when I went to her vet to have her records put in my name, they couldn’t find a cat named Delilah, they only showed Fatsy Cline. That gave me a good laugh. To me, she was always Delilah. She was the most loving and snuggly cat I’ve ever met. Everybody who met her loved her. She liked to lay on your chest, but she weighed about 20 pounds, so it could get a little uncomfortable. She would also sleep next to me and put her head on my shoulder.

She was such a joy to be around, and having her was like having a piece of my brother still with me.

Delilah passed in November 2021, almost five years to the day after my brother. I still miss both of them. She was one of a kind, and I know I’ll never meet another cat like her. Thank you NHS for the gift that Delilah a/k/a Fatsy Cline was to my brother and to me.”
